English Language Learning (ELL)

Students needing to learn English can enter Clearfield Job Corps' English Language Learning (ELL) program. Students entering into the ELL program are referred by Career Preparation upon entry into Job Corps.

Each week, ELL students are given the California Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) test. The tests are used to determine student proficiency levels so CJC can assess their learning and placement needs.

The CASAS test is given to students regularly to access their progress in the ELL program.

An initial appraisal is given to determine the appropriate retest form. A pretest is administered at the beginning of classroom instruction, with continual post testing every 100 hours of education. Learning gains are measured by comparing and contrasting the students pretest against their post-test scores.
