Career Development Services System (CDSS) is a system-wide approach and methodology for equipping students with the knowledge, skills, abilities and support needed for long term career success.
CDSS involves continuous experiences and services which are personalized to students individual needs and infused throughout all phases of training, resulting in stable employment, livable wages and career progression.
This includes four areas of focus:

Outreach & Admissions (OA) |
Career Preparation Period (CPP)
Career Development Period (CDP) |
Career Transition Period (CTP)
-
Outreach & Admissions (OA) - Job Corps begins by meeting with an Admissions Counselor who will outline what to expect on center and the basics of the Job Corps comprehensive career development system. This counselor will work with the student to develop a Personal Career Development Plan (PCDP) that will help the student map out a road of success in Job Corps and beyond. **This process includes a review of labor market information and identification of opportunities in high-growth careers.
- Career Preparation Period (CPP) - During the first five-weeks in Job Corps, students undergo basic training technology, career searching and employment skills. Career Prep will expose the student to all aspects of the Center and to a variety of opportunities for training. The student will be given assessment tests, work on driver's education and continue to develop a Personal Career Development Plan(PCDP), fine tuning specific goals and beginning to think about their career transition. Job Corps gives the student time to fully explore his or her potential and begin to work with staff to reach their personal goals.
- Career Development Period (CDP) - During this phase, the student begins to work on occupational and academic training. The student can earn a high school diploma or GED and train in one of many career areas. As the student progresses in vocational training, the student will be able to participate in work-based learning projects with a Job Corps employer partner. Upon completion of academic and occupational training, the student receives an industry endorsed certification.
- Career Transition Period (CTP) - At this step, the student may choose to enter the workforce immediately, join the military or go on to advanced training or college. The student is matched with a Career Transition Counselor in the field where they plan to work and live. The career transition counselor helps the student find a job, locate housing, transportation, child care (if necessary), and health care among other vital support services essential to a successful transition to the working world.
Upon completion of these four areas, the student will be ready for graduation and successful placements into the job market.
