This program gives students the motivation and confidence to further their education, as was the case for one student who decided to enter Weber State University after successfully completing the Work Based Learning (WBL) program in a business tech internship. "[The Work Based Learning Program] offered me the opportunity to learn and explore new things," said the student. "It's a great thing for the students." Work Based Learning involves a six-week, 360-hour internship with employers in the local community. WBL impacts students lives by helping them develop team communication skills, personal self-esteem, a sense of responsibility, and learn decision making skills. Some of the many growing opportunities Job Corps' Work Based Learning program offers are with companies such as:
The newest health occupations internship is at Ogden Regional Medical Center which has 300+ medical staff and over 1,000 employees to help medical interns learn the best quality care possible. The WBL program provides students with a flexible and valuable addition to classroom training. The WBL staff work with employers to select the right opportunities for both the employer and the student. WBL has a positive impact on students employability by enhancing the job placement opportunities, licensing, and/or certification whenever necessary. By identifying personal goals and individual aptitudes, the WBL program helps gives students valuable work experience to launch them into a successful future. The benefits of the WBL program for participating employers include the opportunity to build a pool of qualified workers, reduce overall training costs and create a partnership between education and business.
