Social Development

Social Development helps students make the most of their Job Corps experience. CJC provides students with a safe, secure, clean, and attractive social living environment. Social Development broadens students understanding of various lifestyles, cultures and values. CJC’s Social Development program encourages students to develop and use independent and community living skills by teaching them self management skills and helping them see the value of being an active participant in the operations of their living environment.

Residential advisors provide a positive atmosphere to dorm life by supervising, teaching, leading, and supporting each students' individual needs. Each dormitory has laundry facilities, TV rooms with cable/HBO, lounges, vending machines, community kitchenettes with refrigerators and microwave. Students are given all the necessities, including beds with linens, lockable storage space, dresser, desk and chairs and even some amenities such as decorative arts, rugs, and plants and (in selective dorms) high speed internet. Typically, you will share a room with 2-5 roommates.

Often, students are expected to participate in various meetings and appointments during the evening hours. These meetings are typically groups meetings, individual counseling appointments, progress/performance evaluations, and independent living/social skill development activities. THERE’S TIME FOR FUN TOO! Evening residential hours also provide personal time for going to town, shopping trips, movies, recreational activities, socializing with friends, and much more.

With all that students get from their time at Job Corps, there’s no doubt: it’s more than an education, it’s an experience!
